The mission of the ERAU Helicopter Club is to support the ongoing development of helicopter training programs at the Prescott campus. Additionally, we promote and educate both students and staff in the Embry Riddle community about helicopters and helicopter flight.
|
Within the past three years Guidance Helicopters, Inc. (GHI), ERAU faculty sponsors, and club members have collectively developed an official and permanent Helicopter Flight Minor at the Embry-Riddle Prescott Campus. Under the authority of Guidance Helicopter's Approved (FAR Part 141) Pilot school, ground instruction is conducted on the campus and the corresponding flight training is conducted at Guidance Helicopters' facility. “Training to a higher standard™” is more than just a tagline in this professional program where knowledge, experience and the high altitude environment are combined in the finest civilian helicopter program in the world.
In addition to the support put into helicopter education on campus, the club regularly attends the Annual Helicopters Association International (HAI) Convention. Last year 19 ERAU students (fixed-wing, rotor wing and engineering students) attended the HAI convention in Anaheim , CA . From Guidance Helicopters, Inc., came ERAU Graduate and Chief Flight Instructor, Kristi Glidden. Along with GHI company President, John Stonecipher, came GHI flight Instructor and former ERAU helicopter Club

President, Peter Renggli. Embry Riddle showed their support by sending; Air Science Professors Scott Burgess and John Johnson, as well as Mr. Bill Thompson, the University Director of Enrollment Management. At the convention, Embry Riddle announced to the helicopter industry the new program co-developed with Guidance Helicopters.
Guidance and ERAU shared a display at the ERAU/Guidance Helicopters booth, giving the helicopter industry its first glance at the nations newest on campus University helicopter training program. In this program, our students gain experience at altitude in the Robinson R22/R44 and will soon become the most marketable pilots in the industry. The program is currently offered at the Embry-Riddle Prescott campus with future plans to expand to Daytona Beach. This year HAI 2006 will be held in Dallas , Texas in February and we hope to unveil the works for the new major that will branch from Aeronautical Science, which will encompass rotorcraft training exclusively. Please contact a club officer if you are interested in club membership and attending HAI. |
